Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts
Sacred Heart sponsors Cub Scout Pack 86 and Boy Scout Troop 86, which offer a wide variety of activities for boys ages 6 through 17. We mentor scouts of all ages to become leaders and responsible citizens.
Boys participate in Cub Scouts from first through fifth grade. Activities include camping, community service and the highlights of our scouting year, the annual Pinewood Derby and the Scout Anniversary (Blue and Gold) Dinner. Each summer Cub Scouts from Pack 86 attend camp at Camp Lewis, the Northern New Jersey Council’s premier resident camp offering archery, BBs, swimming, boating and more!
During fifth grade, boys bridge into Troop 86. Our activities include camping trips, hikes and community service. Troop 86 participates in many activities sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Council such as the annual Klondike Derby, district camporees and other events. Each summer, scouts from Troop 86 attend summer resident camp at Camp Turrell, which offers opportunities to earn merit badges from sailing and swimming to rifle shooting, rock climbing and archery. In the past year, the Troop has gone indoor rock climbing, hiked 20 miles in one day, gone whitewater rafting down the Delaware River and backpacked through the High Peaks in the Adirondacks.
Our Scouts have accomplished tremendous things. In the last year alone, one of our Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in scouting, while another attended a National Youth Leadership Training course, two were trained and became lifeguards and four worked on Scout camp staffs. Our Troop earned dozens of merit badges last year and provided more than 500 hours of service to our community.
Girl Scouts
Sacred Heart sponsors Girl Scouts for girls from kindergarten through eighth grade. Most meetings are held after school once a week right at Sacred Heart. Our activities include trips, service projects and annual events such as our “Thinking Day,” which highlights the traditions of various cultures. We were recently excited to take part in a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the national Girl Scout movement with other troops from Lyndhurst.
