We have finished our readiness book in reading. We will begin our new book on Monday. If you did not send in a book sox, please do so. Children are responsible for all vocabulary words in their study notebook. They are highlighted in yellow.
Dear Parents,
I was just on IXL looking over those who have practiced the skills assigned. The skills they need to practice are listed on my blog and in your child’s homework notebook. Some children were on IXL but did not practice the correct skills. The skills that were assigned will help your child succeed on their phonics quiz. Please have them review those.

Number word paper – Cut & glue There will be a quiz on number words tomorrow. Your child only needs to know how to read their number words. They don’t need to know how to spell them.
Children need to know their address by Monday, 9/25. They need to know the number, street name and town they live in.

Study notebook – Your child was given their study notebook today, Children do not write in this book. It is for study purposes only. Parent’s homework – Please fill in the information sheet with your child’s name. address, phone number …. I will be asking them this information next week during class.
Study highlighted vocabulary words in study notebook. These are review words from kindergarten. Children are also responsible for their color and number words.
Homework notebook – Your child was also given their homework notebook. The children will write their assignments down each day. This helps build independence, while reinforcing handwriting skills. Please sign notebooks daily.

Just a few reminders about Monday:
On Monday, we will begin full days. Please be outside to pick up your child at 2:40 unless they are going to aftercare.
Children have gym on Monday. They need to come to school in gym uniform and sneakers.
Please provide a healthy snack for your children. We will have snack in the morning. If you did not order lunch for your child, please provide one for them.
Homework will begin on Monday. Children will have a homework notebook and write down their own assignments. I will also post the assignments on my blog.

Day 2 was another success!! Due to the extreme heat, we are taking it slow. The children have been real troopers!!!

Good afternoon,
Today was our first day of school and it was a huge success!!! (minus the heat) We had a wonderful morning!! They were happy and I was so glad to meet each and every one of them. It is extremely hot in the classroom and I am allowing your child to keep their water bottle on their desk. Although it is a 12 o’clock dismissal, please make sure your child has plenty of water and a snack.
The specials schedule was sent home in your child’s folder today. It is as follows:

Thursday – Music/Library
Friday – Art
Please continue to send in supplies and supply money over the next few days. Tomorrow and Friday are orientation days. We will begin full days on Monday.

Welcome to First Grade!!! I am so excited to be your child’s teacher! I am looking forward to a wonderful year! You will see your child grow in both their academic abilities and social skills. 1B will be a place where all students will be respected, safe, and confident in their abilities.
Throughout the year, I will keep you informed of what is going on…what we are learning, your child’s progress and everything that will make this year successful. Please check my blog daily for homework and announcements. I believe the connection between home and school is essential. As a team, we can make great things happen!
