IXL Summer Work

I see that quite a few students have begun their summer work on IXL. Very wise decision to get started early and not wait until the last minute. Kudos to you all.  Keep up the good work!

IXL Summer Work – Jr. High

All incoming students from grades 5-8 have been assigned Math, Reading, and Language Arts IXL summer work based on their MAP testing scores. Students have been given instructions on how to access their individual learning plans. All students must complete the work and achieve an 85 SmartScore before moving on to each section.

Instructions with screen shots will be posted on the school website Summer Resource Center and Mrs. Durocher will also be sending this out via email. If you have any questions regarding the work, please contact Ms. Klein (jklein@sacredheartlynd.org) or Mrs. Miles (smiles@sacredheartlynd.org). Students will need their IXL usernames and passwords. Contact either one of us if your child cannot access IXL or has forgotten their password.

Mrs. Miles and I will be checking IXL periodically over the summer to ensure that students are completing the work. If a student has not begun any of the work by mid to end of July, an email will be sent to the parent. A grade will be recorded at the start of the school year in PowerSchool for this assignment.

THANK YOU!

It seems like the school year flies by so fast, and summer even faster. It’s been a great year, and I hope that you have a wonderful summer! Thank you to all of my students and parents for your end-of-year gifts. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. A big shout out goes to my 5A students and their many “surprises”. It’s been a great ride!

Many, many thanks to my class moms who offered their support and treats throughout the year. Mrs. Montague, Mrs. Naviello, Mrs. Lafuente, and Mrs. Taveras… we couldn’t have done this without you. We are all grateful for your time and hard work. So blessed.

Enjoy the summer. Get outside and enjoy all that summer offers. Rest and recharge with family and friends. Have a safe, healthy, and happy summer! See you in September.

Lots of Love,

Ms. Klein

Jr. High Locks

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I collected all of the student locks today, and placed them in individual bags with their names and combinations clearly written on the front. Any student who has not turned in a lock because they have taken it home may have to pay for a new one in September if they lose it this summer. If I have an available email address, I will let you know today. Please ask your son/daughter if they turned in their lock. If it is home, I would advise that the lock is returned to school for safe keeping. Thank you.

Ms. Klein

Grades 5-7 Locks

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Once we are ready to clean out lockers, I will be collecting the locks of students returning next year. They will be placed in a zip lock bag with their name and combination written on the front. In September, they will receive their lock back.  It is quite easy to lose things over the summer break, so I want to ensure that we have enough locks for the junior high. If your child is not returning, and would like to  take the lock home, please notify me via email. If not, I will forward the lock to another incoming student.  Thank you.

Ms. Klein

8th Grade Knights of Columbus Scholarship Essay

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Before the break, the 8th grade students were given information regarding the Knights of Columbus scholarship essay. Students attending a Catholic high school should complete this essay and turn it in to the Knights of Columbus no later than May 9th. There are three $1000 scholarships available. One for a boy and one for a girl. The third is the Sir Knight Tim Suter Catholic Living Award for either a boy or a girl.

Mrs. Canal and I would be happy to read any essay submission up until April 25th. After that they would have to submit without our review.

Liberty State Park – Class Trip

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Just a gentle reminder that the permission slip and money for the class trip is due on Monday, March 25th.

Yearbook Club Pictures

All club pictures will be taken tomorrow at 9:00am in the gym. There are no retakes for students who are absent. Names will be included as “not pictured”.

Art, Instrumental Music, Yoga, and Chess.

Grades 5A and 5B – Class Trip to Liberty State Park

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I have been asked by some of the students as to whether or not their parent can join us on the trip. At this time, we have all four of our class moms coming with us. We cannot determine if there are going to be additional tickets and/or seats on the bus until all of the permission slips and payment is received by Monday, March 25th. Once this deadline has been reached, Mrs. Vasil will have a final count and only then will we know if there is room for additional parents. I do know that some parents are choosing to purchase their own tickets and meet us at Liberty State Park on that day. Either way, all parents must have “Protecting God’s Children” in order to accompany us on any trip or event.

Grade 6 Literature

Grade 5A and 5B Reading – Missing Assignments

Today, all students who are missing work were given a list of assignments to complete by Friday. Whether your child is absent due to illness or vacation, he/she is still responsible for completing the work. When they come home today, please ask them if they were given a list. If your child is absent today, and he/she is missing any work, the list will be given tomorrow. Otherwise, check Google Classroom. Any work not completed by this Friday will result in a “0” entered into PowerSchool. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me as soon as possible.

Attention Junior National Honor Society Students and Parents

This Sunday, February 25th our school is hosting an Open House for new students and their families. We are asking for some volunteers from the Honor Society to help out on that day conducting tours of the school. The Open House is from 1:00-3:00pm and all students should arrive no later than 12:45. Students coming to help must be dressed in their winter uniforms. Service hours will be given for time spent volunteering. We apologize for the last minute request and thank you in advance for attending the Open House.

End of the Trimester and Missing Work

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we quickly come upon the end of the 2nd trimester (3/3/24), I am concerned with the amount of missing assignments on Google Classroom.  Unfortunately, if these assignments are not completed and submitted by February 28th, grades will be posted as zero. For those who have been out of school for up to a week or more due to illness or vacation, it is very important that the student touches base with his/her teacher and makes an attempt to complete the work. I have been reminding students about their missing work, but ultimately it is their responsibility. Parents, please check your child’s Google Classroom and PowerSchool accounts for any notes regarding missing work. Please email me if there are any questions or concerns.

Grade 5A – Valentine Treats

Any cupcakes or cookies for Valentine’s Day will be distributed at lunch on Thursday, 2/15. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, so no treats should be brought in to school until Thursday.

Grades 6-8 National Junior Honor Society Members

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Nominations are being sent to the Envision program in Washington D.C. for this summer’s Junior National Young Leaders Conference. All NJHS members are nominated for this program. Parents, please keep this in mind that the conference is not mandatory, and it is an honor to be nominated. Please look into the program before suggesting to your child that he/she might attend. The cost may be prohibitive to some. However, there are scholarships available which previous students have taken advantage of. Please go to jrNYLC.com for the information. Again, this is an honor worthy of noting on your child’s list of accomplishments. A letter will be sent home this week. I have also attached a tentative agenda for the summer program

.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Ms. Klein
